Illustrations and animation of mascot

The brief
"Scandic Hotels have 160 hotels in the Nordic region and Northern Europe and now their children's mascot "Sigge" needs an update to appeal more to families and children."

The process
In collaboration with Camilla Lundsten Studio I redesigned the old mascot, creating about 30 illustrations and an animation that would show Sigge's new fun-loving personality and playfulness. It was important to keep the core visuals, like remaining a hedgehog, but we made him more colorful and friendly, less formal and with large smiling eyes, and letting his hair make him easily recognizable among other characters and help express his mood.

Client praise
"Thanks for all your help with Sigge!"

     - Lotta Björkman, Marketing Manager, Scandic Hotels AB, Sweden

Website icons

The brief
"I need 8 icons like the ones you find on android (contacts, settings etc). They should communicate their function, be easy to understand, look like existing icons, yet have a distinctive design to them."

Client praise
"Marten is a very professional artist and designer. Working with him is like working with any top class art designer at a world class agency.
He went through a very thorough analysis of what I wanted to achieve, the right look and feel, and came back very quickly with an initial sketch.
After a brief discussion the ever-creative Marten came back with a revised design in a matter of hours! Marten charges professional rates and gives you top grade work. I really enjoyed working with such a talented and creative person. Highly recommended."

Children's book (personal work)
This is a book about Timo. He's a little fellow who loves all kinds of things and in each book he tells us about the items.

This book talks about his lovely red bicycle.

The brief
"We need illustrations for party invitations that our players can send out, on the themes of Paris, Polynesia, Rock, and Ibiza."

Client praise
"From our first conversation to project completion, Marten has been a pleasure to work with. He took my rough ideas and created engaging, high quality artwork that I genuinely could not be happier with.
Marten's regular and articulate feedback meant I was always clear on progress. Response to my feedback and questions was always prompt.
Marten's portfolio speaks for his talent and versatility. I recommend him without reservation and look forward to working with him again."

The brief
"We want an iconic image to represent our brand, a meeting between engine and organism, a visual puzzle with a twist, a mix of instruments and tools."

Client praise
"I love this one. I'm really glad you went in this direction.  It feels very organic and powerful. I love the detail work and find it very rewarding to take a quick look or to find the elements of the piece. Thank you and very well done!"

Tom Wait's song (personal work)

I was inspired by the Tom Waits song "Step right up" about a salesman that seems to have everything for sale. Would be great to turn it into an animation some day.
